Canada will be looking to bounce back from recent setbacks, as they face a challenging opponent in the Dominican Republic in their next match. The North American country will be heading into this contest on the back of losing their last two fixtures. They will be eager to build some momentum, however, the Caribbean nation will not be an easy test for them. The FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship 2022 is hosted in the Netherlands and Poland this year, and the tournament which started on 23rd September will end on 15th October.  

The Dominican Republic had their moments to remember and forget in the competition till now. They finished third in Pool B with 11 points from five matches, having won three and lost two. However, they lost both their opening matches in Phase 2 before defeating Germany in their last match to sit fifth in Pool F. Meanwhile, Canada managed eight points from five games to finish third in Pool C during Phase 1. They started Phase 2 with a win over Thailand before losing to Turkey and tournament co-hosts Poland.

FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship 2022 Format

The 24-team tournament will run from September 23 through October 15. The teams are split up into four groups of six teams each, and they compete in a round-robin format. Each pool’s top four teams advance to the second round and the 16 teams are divided into two pools of eight nations. The countries coming from the same first-round pool only play against opponents from a different first-round pool. Each pool’s top four teams compete in a quarterfinal round, with the winners moving on to the semifinals. The World Championship trophy will be up for grabs for the last-four victorious teams, while the third-place match pits the losers against each other.
