The heavyweights in beach volleyball of the Commonwealth Games keep marching on, as fans are being swamped with an endless amount of action. The defending gold medal winners in both men’s and women’s categories won their respective matches on Monday night. Besides, there were also other prominent results unfolding on that day. The Day 5 (Wednesday) will witness six more matches – four in the men’s section and two in the women’s categories. There is not much longer left in the group phase, thus every match counts.
Canada, who won the gold medal four years ago in Gold Coast, defeated Kenya 2-0 before New Zealand got past Ghana by the same scoreline later in the day. In the men’s section, four matches took place and out of those, the notable one was the defending gold medal winner, Australia, beating South Africa 2-0. Meanwhile, Wednesday will also witness six more matches and two of those are in the women’s section. Kenya women will be taking on Ghana, while Canada will be facing New Zealand in a mouth-watering encounter.

A total of 12 men’s and women’s teams will participate in the beach volleyball competition that will take place from 30th July to 7th August. The men’s and women’s sections will each have three pools with four teams in them. The knockout matches start on the fifth of August with the quarterfinals, the next day will be the semifinals and the medal matches will happen on the seventh of August (Sunday). Each match is played with a best of three sets. The first two sets are played to 21 points, and the third set is played to 15 points. The first team to reach 21 points – or 15 points – with a two-point advantage wins the set.
