On the other hand, China will be hoping to bounce back from losing their last two games in the competition. Hence, the upcoming clash will hold significance for both sides due to contrasting reasons. Sitting third in the table, Brazil are two points ahead of China, which is placed at the sixth spot.
So far in the competition, Brazil have lost only twice – against the USA and Italy. They have won three of their last four matches to sit third in the table with 18 points from eight matches. On the other hand, China are two behind with 16 points from the same number of matches. They have won five and lost three, including the last two against the USA and Japan. In the preliminary round, 16 women’s teams will compete in pools of 8 teams under the revised format. During the pool stage, each team plays 12 matches. Eight teams will then advance to the competition’s final knockout round. The Finals will include the seven strongest teams, with the finals host – Turkey – entering the knockout round as the top-placed team. It will consist of eight matches in total – four quarterfinals, two semi-finals, and bronze and gold medal matches.
