Canada are in for a tough assignment against New Zealand in the Women’s Beach Volleyball semifinal of the Commonwealth Games. The Canadians are the defending gold medal winners in the CWG. They overcame then hosts Australia in the final four years ago in Gold Coast. They started this tournament as one of the medal favourites and so far have lived up to the billing by producing quality performances. Canada, however, have a tough assignment in hand against New Zealand, who are also on a good run of form.
The Canadians stormed into the last-four of the competition in some style after coming up with dominant performances right throughout the competition. They got past Sri Lanka 2-0 in the quarterfinals to book a semifinal spot. On the other hand, New Zealand defeated tournament hosts England by the same scoreline to reach the last-four stage. Elsewhere, Australia defeated Scotland 2-0, while Vanuatu got the better of Cyprus by the same scoreline. As a result, Australia will play Vanuatu in the other semifinal.
