Canada will be taking on home favourites England in the men’s beach volleyball semifinal of the Commonwealth Games. Now they have a chance of winning another medal in the Commonwealth Games but standing in their way is the tournament hosts England. Canada will be considered slight favourites in this clash, nonetheless, the home crowd can play a big role in helping England match their fancied opponents toe-to-toe.
The Canadians entered the Commonwealth Games as one of the medal favourites and have lived up to that tag, producing impressive performances till now. In the quarterfinals, they comfortably got past Cyprus 2-0 to book a last-four spot. On the other hand, England had to work hard to get past Gambia 2-1 in their last-eight contest. Elsewhere, Rwanda stunned New Zealand 2-0, while defending gold medal winners Australia got past Sri Lanka 2-1. Hence, the Aussies will face Rwanda in the other semifinal.

A total of 12 men’s and women’s teams will participate in the beach volleyball competition that will take place from 30th July to 7th August. The men’s and women’s sections will each have three pools with four teams in them. The knockout matches start on the fifth of August with the quarterfinals, the next day will be the semifinals and the medal matches will happen on the seventh of August (Sunday). Each match is played with a best of three sets. The first two sets are played to 21 points, and the third set is played to 15 points. The first team to reach 21 points – or 15 points – with a two-point advantage wins the set.
