The 2021 South American champions lost the match with a score of 25-17, 25-15, 14-25, 25-14. It was Brazil’s second defeat in the Volleyball Nations League programme. After the loss, the 2021 silver medalist dropped to fifth in the standings, while the Italians leapfrogged them into the third spot. In seven matches, the South Americans have collected 15 points by winning five games. Brazil started their campaign with three consecutive wins against Germany, Poland and Dominican Republic before being thrashed 3-0 by the USA. However, they quickly bounced back to thrash Turkey and Netherlands before losing to Italy.
Serbia, on the other hand, secured a thrilling five-set victory against Turkey in their last match. The scoreboard read 25-19, 15-25, 20-25, 25-22, 15-13. It was Serbia’s fifth victory of the campaign and they sit at the sixth spot with 14 points from seven games. The Serbs had a dominant start to the campaign, winning the opening three matches before losing to Italy on June15. And then, quickly got their acts together to thrash South Korea without losing a set before edging past the Dutch women.

In the preliminary round, 16 women’s teams will compete in pools of 8 teams under the revised format. During the pool stage, each team plays 12 matches. Eight teams will then advance to the competition’s final knockout round. The Finals will include the seven strongest teams, with the finals host – Turkey – entering the knockout round as the top-placed team. It will consist of eight matches in total – four quarterfinals, two semi-finals, and bronze and gold medal matches.

Meanwhile, Netherlands lost to Dominican Republic after taking a head start in the game 25-23, 20-25, 21-25, 25-15, 7-15 (2-3). Bulgaria produced a dominating performance as they clinched a victory in straight sets to outclass Canada 26-24, 25-22, 25-21. Belgium, on the other hand, had a close encounter with Poland to emerge victorious after a 25-20, 15-25, 25-22, 22-25, 15-13 win. The other two matches are yet to take place.
