In-form Brazil will be renewing their South American rivalry with Argentina in the quarterfinals of the FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship 2022. In the Thursday night clash, Brazil will be the overwhelming favourites. Their run-up to the quarterfinals has undoubtedly justified the favourites tag. Their opponents though had an extremely slow start to the competition before finding their own feet. They won their last two matches in impressive fashion to set up a quarterfinal date with their continental rival.
Brazil were placed in a tricky Pool B but were still expected to top the group. They managed to seal the top spot in some style after beating Japan, Cuba and Qatar. Brazil managed a total of eight points from their three group matches. On the other hand, Argentina were placed in Group F alongside some really difficult opponents. After narrowly losing their opening two games to the Netherlands and Iran, they defeated Egypt to seal a knockout berth. In the round of 16, Argentina overcame Serbia 3-0, while Brazil defeat Iran by the same margin.

The 24-team competition will take place from August 26th to September 11th. All of the teams are divided into six groups with each pool consisting of four teams. The group phase will last for six days, with each team playing once against their pool opponents. Following the completion of the schedule, 16 teams will be ascertained. It will have all six pool winners, runners-up, and the best four third-placed teams. They will proceed to the first round of elimination.
