Aljamain Sterling and Sean O’Malley might face up at bantamweight, according to Bryce Mitchell. According to him, the UFC is doing all it can to prevent “Sugar” from suffering a humiliating defeat against the champion at 135 pounds. O’Malley and “Thug Nasty” have been verbally jabbing one another. The unbeaten featherweight prospect expressed his resentment when he questioned “Sugar’s” credentials before their battle at UFC 280 versus Petr Yan. O’Malley referred to Mitchell as an “inbred” in response to the video in which Mitchell predicted the outcome of the fight. O’Malley ultimately prevailed by split decision.

O’Malley moved up ten slots to become the No. 1 contender after winning at UFC 280, but there hasn’t been any concrete talk of the UFC scheduling the American as Sterling’s next bantamweight rival. Bryce Mitchell asserted that the UFC is protecting O’Malley from being “killed” by Aljamain Sterling in an exclusive interview with James Lynch of MMA: “They’re trying to protect the guy that’s worth the money. O’Malley will get destroyed if he fights Sterling. That’s why they [the UFC] aren’t having the Sterling-O’Malley fight.”

The future conflict between Bryce Mitchell and Sean O’Malley is certain to occur, according to Bryce Mitchell. According to him, Sugar’s height will be the decisive factor in his almost inevitable transition to the featherweight class. Mitchell went on to say that he’s determined to face O’Malley in the octagon. Regardless of O’Malley’s strategy, the 28-year-old is confident that he will prevail if the fight really takes place. At UFC 272, Mitchell’s last fight took place inside the octagon against ferocious featherweight Edson Barboza. He was chosen as the winner by a wide margin. On December 10, 2022, at UFC 282, Ilia Topuria is scheduled as his next opponent.
