Former UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya suffered his maiden loss in the middleweight division in UFC at the hands of Alex Pereira. Interestingly, ‘Izzy’ had fought Pereira twice in the past in kickboxing and he lost both of those fights as well.

While losing three fights to the same guy might be morally demeaning for most of the fighters, it is not the case with Israel Adesanya. The former middleweight champion was winning the bout until he was hurt in the final round and wants to run it back with Alex Pereira until he gets his victory.

Israel Adesanya appeared on Andrew Schulz’s podcast, Flagrant, to discuss a variety of things. While speaking about his intention of fighting Alex Pereira again, he said: “I will fight you until I beat you. I don’t give a fu**. I’ll be 60, I’ll come to your favela, I’ll knock on your f**king door [with] my walking stick and be like, ‘Yo, you and me right now.’ Like, we need to go because that’s just me. I don’t give a f**k. Even if it’s just one. I’ll beat you. I know I can beat him.”

Israel Adesanya claims his compromised footwork led to his defeat

As mentioned earlier, Adesanya was ahead on scorecards going into the fifth round of the fight. The only way for Alex Pereira to win the bout was to knock him out and the Brazilian did exactly that. Speaking about the stoppage at the post fight press-conference ‘Izzy’ revealed that his footwork was compromised because of Pereira’s constant leg kicks.

Israel Adesanya said: “The fight was going my way. He hit my perineal nerve so that’s why my footwork was compromised. Kudos to him for investing in those calf kicks. ‘Cause yeah, it cost me.”

It’s safe to say that Alex Pereira’s constant attack on Israel Adesanya’s legs paid off in a big way. That said, the story between the two still seems far from over and it will be interesting to see what the next chapter holds for the two.
