Fights on Tap is a weekly roundup of all fights booked at UFC, Bellator, and other promotions. Can you agree that UFC 281 is running for Event of the Year? There are a few more events in 2022, but last weekend’s PPV is like it should be at the top of the list. From Alex Pereira, who stunned the world with a five-round TKO over Israel Adesanya, to two-time strawweight champion Zhang Wei-Lee, there was a lot to look forward to at this pay-per-view event. Dustin Poirier and Michael Chandler delivered exactly what we expected. Prelim was packed with meaningful performances from Renato Moicano, Ryan Spann, Erin Branchfield, and more!

UFC has announced or completed seven fights this week, with one fight between champions scheduled. Islam Makhachev vs. Aleksandr Volkanovski is on the way! A few weeks ago, Makachev submitted and won the then-vacant UFC Lightweight Championship against Charles Oliveira. American Kickboxing Academy (AKA)’s product was in front of us within seconds, so we didn’t have to wait long to find out who our next opponent would be. The reigning UFC Featherweight Champion served as a potential stand-in for Makhachev vs. Oliveira, sharing a moment with Makhachev in the Octagon and practice setting up the now-confirmed super fight that will headline next year’s UFC 284.

The “Big One” puts on weight and fights for his second title. The City kickboxing star has defended his current belt four times but has expressed interest in winning gold in the second division. At his pay-per-view event at his RAC Arena in Perth, Australia, he will get that chance in front of a local crowd.
