Dustin Poirier has to be towards the top of the list when it comes to popular competitors on the UFC roster and in mixed martial arts in general. The Louisiana native has had a fantastic career in promotion, and at 33, he still has plenty of time on the clock if he so wishes. His most recent fight, though, was one of his most catastrophic, as he was defeated by submission against Charles Oliveira at UFC 269.

The defeat was his second in an undisputed lightweight title fight, and despite being a past interim champion, he’s still as eager as he’s ever been to go all the way and eventually achieve his longtime ambition. ‘The Diamond’ has been missing for seven months, leaving many fans wondering when he’ll return to the Octagon – but according to the man himself, he’s grinding hard to return.

Who is next for Dustin Poirier

You could probably argue that Poirier is only one impressive win away from another shot at the crown, and that two victories would suffice. Nate Diaz is a man he’s wanted to fight for a long time, but the UFC has been hesitant to book him. He might can also face Justin Gaethje. Since joining the UFC, the former Bellator champion is 2-2, but all four of his fights have been utter barnburners, and that may be an understatement.

‘Iron Mike’ and Poirier have been trading words on social media and in interviews recently, but things truly blew up earlier this month at UFC 276 in Las Vegas, when they had to be separated by security officers. From the viewpoint of the plot, this makes perfect sense.
