Former UFC dual champion Daniel Cormier would fight at 205 pounds if he made a comeback. After losing to Stipe Miocic at UFC 252 in August 2020, “DC” gave off fighting. It was a simple decision to put down the gloves given the defeat, his back problems, and his advanced age. Cormier’s remarkable career culminated in his induction into the UFC Hall of Fame last month.

The 43-year-old has never even suggested getting back in the ring after retiring. He would be difficult to blame as well. In addition to becoming a star in the UFC broadcast booth, Cormier loves to tutor on the side. In a recent live Twitter Q&A, Daniel Cormier did, however, address a potential comeback to mixed martial arts. The former two-weight champion said it’s not likely, but it’s also not impossible. Cormier said that if he came back, it would be at light-heavyweight.

Daniel Cormier may fight at 205 pounds

Given that “DC” concluded his career at heavyweight, the remarks come as a bit of a surprise. However, Cormier believes that a comeback at 205 pounds provides him a greater opportunity for a championship because his last two defeats were up at that weight class. He said, “I said this when I retired, I said I’m only going to fight for championship belts. But it’s like I don’t deserve a heavyweight championship fight. Stipe is not the champ. He beat me the last couple times. I don’t deserve a shot at the heavyweight title. If I was ever going to fight again – which I don’t want to – I would have to go all the way back to 205 pounds.” (h/t SportsKeeda)

“Why? Let me tell you why. Because I didn’t lose. Remember, I vacated. I didn’t want to go back down there when Jones was gonna fight Gustafsson, so because I vacated the title now, maybe there is some potential in it: ‘Hey Dana, you think I could fight Jiri Prochazka for the title? If it ever happens, it better happen soon. I’m 44 years old in March. But hey, Randy Couture won the heavyweight championship 45, so not impossible.”
