UFC lightweight contender Beneil Dariush has given his prediction for the highly anticipated Dustin Poirier vs. Michael Chandler fight. The two are set to square off inside the octagon at the UFC 281 event in New York in a couple of weeks time.

During a recent interview with Luke Thomas, Beneil Dariush commented on how the fight would play out. According to him, Michael Chandler does have the ability to beat Dustin Poirier, however, he believes Chandler will end up losing the fight because he will try to put on a show.

“I think if he goes out there, plays a very conservative striking game, lot of wrestling, he should be able to pull this off. But in reality I think Dustin Poirier is gonna end up winning this fight because Chandler’s gonna try to be more than he needs to be.”

It’s safe to say that Beneil Dariush has given a fair assessment of the fight. Chandler does end up in trouble in trying to be more exciting. He has often thrown his game plan out of the window and one cannot do the same against someone like Dustin Poirier.

Can Michael Chandler get a title shot following a potential win over Dustin Poirier?

Chandler has been one of the biggest names in the lightweight division ever since his arrival to the UFC. Moreover, he has even fought for the title in just his second fight with the promotion. However, he went on to lose his fight against Charles Oliveira and also lost to Justin Gaethje following that.

Since then, he has fought just once and that too against Tony Ferguson. So, as things stand at the moment, it is unlikely that Michael Chandler will get a title shot following a potential win over Dustin Poirier. He will most likely have to fight one more top contender in order to put his name in title contention again.
