In the lightweight class, there’s simply something about Dagestani grapplers that appeals to oddsmakers. In their matchup for the vacant 155-pound title at UFC 280, Islam Makhachev and Charles Oliveira began as a -255 favourite and (+215), respectively, according to online bookmaker BetOnline. Makhachev vs. Oliveira was confirmed by the promotion on Saturday during the UFC on ABC 3 show. On October 22, UFC 280 will take place in Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi, and it is anticipated that Belal Muhammad and Sean Brady will square off in a welterweight fight. Makhachev has a 10-fight winning run in UFC competition, solidifying him as a title candidate.

Among others, the training partner of Khabib Nurmagomedov has impressive victories against Arman Tsarukyan, Drew Dober, Thiago Moises, Dan Hooker, and Bobby Green. The 30-year-old export from the American Kickboxing Academy has an overall career record of 22-1.

Islam Makhachev vs Charles Oliveira at UFC 280

Prior to his May showdown with Justin Gaethje at UFC 274, Oliveira controversially missed weight, which cost him the lightweight championship. When “Do Bronx” submitted Gaethje in the first stanza for his 11th straight victory in the Octagon, he gave himself a chance to win back the belt. During his promotional career, the Diego Lima of Chute Boxe has defeated competitors like Gaethje, Dustin Poirier, Michael Chandler, Tony Ferguson, Jim Miller, and Clay Guida.

The matchup between both the men is excellent as both the men are best at what they do. Makhachev is a grappler as well as Oliveira just their techniques are different. Charles Oliveira is running on a different spree and is at his peak but Makhachev is learning from the best Khabib and it would be interesting to see who would win the vacant lightweigh championship.
