With a win at UFC Fight Night in Austin, Texas, Calvin Kattar and Josh Emmett will be on the short list of UFC featherweight championship candidates. Kattar vs. Emmett is just the third UFC Fight Night in 2022 to be held in front of a full house. Many questioned Kattar’s viability after suffering a record number of blows from Max Holloway in 2021. Kattar (23-5) returned a year later and unloaded his pent-up rage on Giga Chikadze over the course of 25 minutes. Kattar’s dominance over the famed kickboxer quickly reaffirmed him as a featherweight contender to watch.

A win over Emmett puts Kattar in line with the winner of Brian Ortega vs. Yair Rodriguez for a UFC championship chance, barring a fourth edition in the apparently endless rivalry between champion Alexander Volkanovski and Max Holloway. Emmett (17-2) has had one of the most gradual increases in any UFC weight class. Emmett, a muscular wrestler with dynamite in his hands, is closer to a world title than he has ever been. Emmett, 37, comes into UFC Fight Night on a four-fight winning run.
