Alexander Volkanovski and former featherweight champion Max Holloway will fight for the third time in two weeks at UFC 276. At Saturday’s UFC Austin headliner, No. 4-ranked Calvin Kattar and No. 7-ranked Josh Emmett attempted to get into the conversation. In a back-and-forth battle, Emmett’s power strokes earned him a split decision victory (47-48, 48-47, 48-47) at the Moody Center in Austin, Texas. With the victory, Emmett (18-2) has now won five consecutive fights. He informed UFC President Dana White and issued warnings to Volkanovski and Holloway.

At UFC Austin, Joaquin Buckley put on one of his greatest performances to date, pounding Albert Duraev with blows round after round to win. Buckley delivered a striking masterclass throughout the fight, but it was a succession of strong left hands that did the most damage, with Duraev’s eye closing entirely between rounds, forcing the doctor to end the fight. Buckley was declared the winner with a TKO at 10 seconds into the third round.

The spectators in Austin, Texas, had been spoilt by a record-tying night of eight knockouts leading up to the UFC Fight Night featherweight main event between Calvin Kattar and Josh Emmett. Then, over the course of five rounds, Kattar and Emmett engaged in a violent, technical war, with Emmett emerging victorious on a split decision. Kattar’s long, straight punches were pitted against Emmett’s powerful and looping power blows in this encounter. It was evident from the start of the fight that the fighter who could lead the forward engagement would be the one conducting the most effective job. Emmett retained the edge in the opening two rounds, landing overhand rights and left hooks to the body that forced Kattar onto his back foot and falling backward into the cage.
