Oliveira was the first to stand up at the UFC 280 official weigh-ins, and he successfully hit the mark at 154.5 pounds, five months after losing his belt on the scale. The second competitor to weigh in was the opponent, Islam Makhachev, and he too reached 154.5, setting up their lightweight title main event contest. After failing to make weight by 0.5 pounds for his fight with Justin Gaethje in the main event of UFC 274 in Phoenix in May, Oliveira had a UFC championship removed from him. Later, a number of boxers raised concerns over differences between the hotel scale and the official scale.

Alexander Volkanovski, the UFC featherweight champion, was present as a backup for the main contest. He measured exactly 155 pounds. The champion Aljamain Sterling and opponent T.J. Dillashaw both registered at 135 pounds for Saturday’s bantamweight co-main event. Sterling is making his second attempt to defend his UFC bantamweight title. At UFC 280, all but one of the 24 competitors made weight; the lone exception was flyweight contender Katlyn Chookagian.

At 127.5 pounds, Chookagian was 1.5 pounds overweight for a non-title fight. According to the UFC, Chookagian will be forced to lose 20% of her winnings in order to compete against Manon Fiorot in her main-card match at a catchweight. Zubaira Tukhugov and Lucas Almeida’s featherweight fight was postponed owing to weight management concerns at the beginning of Friday’s official weigh-ins.
