Stipe Miocic was born on August 19, 1982, in Belgrade, Serbia. He is a trained mixed martial artist from the United States. Miocic, a former two-time UFC Heavyweight Champion, now fights in the Heavyweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). Miocic is largely recognized as the greatest UFC heavyweight fighter of all time by analysts, pundits, and the media. He is ranked #2 among heavyweights in the UFC as of August 9, 2021. He holds the record for the most victories in heavyweight title bouts and the longest heavyweight title-defending run with three straight defenses thanks to his four successful title defenses throughout the course of his two reigns. With nine fight-night bonuses, Miocic owns the record for the most in the history of the UFC heavyweight division.

He was the son of Croatian immigrants Kathy and Bojan Miocic, and he was born and reared in Euclid, Ohio, on August 19, 1982. His mother is a native of Cetingrad, Croatia, while his father is from Rtina. He continued to live with his mother when his parents divorced when he was still a little boy, first with his grandparents, and then with his stepfather and younger half-brother Jonathan.
His mother supported him in athletics from an early age. Miocic participated in wrestling, baseball, and American football at Eastlake North High School. During his time in college at Trevecca Nazarene University and Cleveland State University, he attracted the attention of Major League Baseball organizations. During his junior year in college, he also participated in Division II baseball at Coker College.
In 2005, Stipe Miocic began competing in combat sports while still in school. As Dan Bobish’s training partner, he was taken to the Strong Style MMA Training Center. After earning his paramedic degree, Stipe rejoined Strong Style MMA. He began training in MMA before switching to boxing. Before beginning his MMA career, Miocic won the Cleveland Golden Gloves boxing championship and was a Division 1 wrestler in the NCAA. He faced Dave Bush at NAAFS – Thursday Night Fights in 2006 and defeated him by way of technical knockout (punches). He finished with a flawless 5-0 record before going pro in 2010.
At NAAFS – Caged Fury 9, Stipe faced off against Corey Mullis in his first professional fight. Prior to joining the UFC, he obtained a professional record of 6-0, won the NAAFS Heavyweight Championship, and won the fight through TKO (punches).
When Stipe Miocic joined the UFC in 2011, he made his debut at UFC 136 against Joey Beltran. Miocic prevailed by unanimous decision in the match. After beating Shane del Rosario and Philip De Fries, Miocic lost his first UFC match to Stefan Struve at UFC on Fuel TV: Struve vs. Miocic. After his loss, he recovered and went on a three-fight winning streak, including a 35-second TKO victory against Fabio Maldonado. At UFC on Fox, Junior dos Santos will face off against Miocic this time.
In order to compete for the UFC Heavyweight Championship against Fabricio Werdum, Stipe then overcame Mark Hunt and Andrei Arlovski. At UFC 198, Miocic faced Werdum and punched his way to a first-round knockout to capture the heavyweight title. After successfully defending his championship against Alistair Overeem at UFC 203 via TKO, Miocic went on to defeat Junior dos Santos at UFC 211 via first-round TKO to get revenge for his earlier defeat. When Stipe defeated Francis Ngannou by majority decision at UFC 220, he broke the record for the most straight UFC Heavyweight championship defenses (3).
Stipe was punched out of the title during his subsequent fight at UFC 226 against Daniel Cormier. At UFC 241, Stipe defeated Cormier to win the championship back by way of fourth-round TKO punches. At UFC 252, he defeated Daniel by unanimous decision to complete the trilogy. At UFC 260, Miocic was defeated by Francis Ngannou and lost his championship once more by second-round KO (punch).
