Background

Conor McGregor, the son of Tony and Margaret McGregor, was born in Crumlin, Dublin. He was reared in Crumlin and educated there, first at the Gaelscoil Scoil Mológa in Harold’s Cross and then at the Gaelcholáiste Coláiste de hÍde in Tallaght, where he also discovered his love for football and his enthusiasm for the game.

He was a football player for the Lourdes Celtic Football Club in his youth. He started boxing at Crumlin Boxing Club when he was 12 years old as a method to boost his confidence and protect himself against bullying.

McGregor relocated to Lucan, Dublin, in 2006 with his family, when he enrolled in Gaelcholáiste Coláiste Cois Life. He started an apprenticeship in plumbing after that. He met future UFC fighter Tom Egan when he was in Lucan, and the two of them quickly began working out.

Early Career

When Conor Mcgregor began boxing at the age of 12 to defend himself from bullies, he entered combat sports in the early 2000s. After relocating to Dublin’s Lucan in 2006, Mcgregor met future UFC fighter Tom Egan and soon began working out with him.

In 2007, Mcgregor made his amateur MMA debut for Ring of Truth. He won the match by first-round TKO. He would become professional and sign with Cage of Truth after the fight. With a 12-2 record in professional fights, Mcgregor won the Cage Warriors Featherweight and Lightweight Championships. The UFC would hire him in 2013.

UFC Career

Marcus Brimage was the opponent for Conor McGregor’s UFC debut at UFC on Fuel TV 9. His TKO punches in the opening round would give him victory. Prior to facing Jose Aldo for the championship at UFC 189, McGregor continued to build on his success by defeating opponents like Max Hollow and Dustin Poirier. Sadly, Aldo would be hurt, forcing Mcgregor to compete for the interim featherweight title against Chad Mendes. Mendes was eliminated by TKO in the last seconds of the second round by Mcgregor (punches).

In order to unify the Featherweight Championship, Mcgregor faced Aldo at UFC 194. Aldo’s 10-year reign as the UFC Featherweight Champion came to an end when McGregor Ko’ed him in 13 seconds, winning the fight and claiming the title for himself. Nate Diaz, who agreed to the bout on short notice, would meet Mcgregor next. Mcgregor would suffer his first UFC defeat in the contest, but he would triumph over Nate in their rematch at UFC 202.

At UFC 205, Mcgregor faced Eddie Alvarez for the UFC Lightweight Championship. Mcgregor defeated Eddie in the second round to become the first UFC two-division champion. After losing the Lightweight championship battle to Khabib at UFC 229, he defeated Cowboy Cerrone in his welterweight debut, before going on a losing run against Dustin Poirier at UFC 257 and UFC 264.
