Van de Zandschulp, who has yet to win an ATP title, reached his first final in Munich by defeating Kecmanovic in the semifinals, but was unable to complete the match, having to retire after only seven games in the first set. Zandschulp’s other notable results this season include a semifinal appearance at Queen’s and quarter final appearances in Melbourne and Marrakech. Van de Zandschulp, who reached the quarterfinals of the US Open last year, also reached the fourth round of Wimbledon this year.
No. 38 in the world Miomir Kecmanovic has been in great touch this season. The 22-year-old Serbian enters his second Canadian Open with a season record of 29-15. Last week, the 22-year-old reached the semifinals in Los Cabos. This was his second appearance in the final four this year, having also made it that far in Munich. Prior to Munich, he appeared in five consecutive quarter finals but never advanced past the last eight. Back-to-back ATP 1000 last eight finishes in Indian Wells and Miami were among the five quarterfinals. While it was his second quarterfinal appearance in the former, it was his first in the latter.
