The WTA Indian Open is a professional female tennis tournament that has been contested in several Indian cities since 2003. It was an outdoor hardcourt WTA Tour event. It was categorised as a Tier II event in 2008, with a prize purse of USD 600,000, making it the largest women’s tennis tournament in South and Southeast Asia that year. Following the WTA’s restructuring in 2009, there were no WTA tournaments in India until 2022, with the exception of select WTA Challengers.
This year, the competition is set to be held in the southern city of Chennai, and will be called the WTA Chennai Open 2022.
