Tennis world number one Ashleigh Barty progressed to the fourth round of Wimbledon 2021 with ease. She beat Katerina Siniakova 6-3, 7-5 to book her spot in the next round. She thus sets up a mouthwatering clash with Barbora Krejcikova, the reigning French Open champion. Barty, it must be noted, has never made it past Wimbledon’s Round of 16. But she is now looking forward to her match with the Czech.

“It was a hell of a match right from the first point,” said Barty. “Another great challenge (Krejcikova) but looking forward to it.

“She has been playing some great stuff and it will be a new challenge for me as I have never played her before.”

But if Barty reach the quarterfinals for the first time she will face a tough rival. Either Coco Gauff or 2018 champion Angelique Kerber await her in that round.

Gauff and Kerber will meet in the last 16 after the American teenager breezed past Slovenian Kaja Juvan. But the German had a tough three-setter against Aliaksandra Sasnovich of Belarus.

Britain’s Canada-born 18-year-old Emma Raducanu, meanwhile, produced a brilliant display to beat the experienced Sorana Cirstea of Romania 6-3, 7-5.

Raducanu – the world number 338 at the start of the Championships – only sat her school leaving exams in April.

But she will next face Australia’s Ajla Tomljanovic, who beat Jelena Ostapenko to reach the Round of 16.
