However, not many take into account the supreme performances by French tennis player Gael Monfils. Monfils reached at least 1 final in 16 straight seasons from 2005 to 2020, which is certainly awe-inspiring, to say the least. This includes prestigious tournaments like the ATP Masters 1000s in 2009 Paris, 2010 Paris and 2016 Monte Carlo in an indication of his prowess. Monfils has enjoyed great success in ATP Tours with 10 titles, which includes ATP 500s in 2016 Washington, 2019 Rotterdam and 2020 Rotterdam.

The Frenchman has won 10 singles career titles over the course of his career so far. Monfils came very close to winning a grand slam in the 2008 edition of the French Open after reaching the semi-finals, going on to reach the same level in the 2016 US Open. The Frenchman’s qualification for the semi-finals in 2008, marked the instance of a player from the nation reaching the platform since 2001. Monfils was defeated by Roger Federer but certainly did his reputation no harm, with a spirited performance. The Frenchman enjoyed a fine start to the 2016 US Open, reaching the semifinals without dropping a set. He defeated prominent players like Gilles Muller, Jan Satral, Nicolas Almagro, Marcos Baghdatis and Lucas Pouille till that stage, eventually suffering a loss against Djokovic in four sets.

Elina Mykhailivna Svitolina is a professional tennis player from Ukraine. On 11 September 2017, she reached her career-high ranking of world No. 3 in singles and world No. 108 in doubles. Svitolina has won 16 singles titles in the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) and has finished third three times.

Svitolina entered the world’s top 50 in July 2013, moved up to the top 20 in June 2015, and then to the top 10 in May 2017, becoming the first Ukrainian woman to do so after surpassing compatriot Alona Bondarenko. After winning her first WTA title in 2013, she went on to win five more until 2017, when she won five more titles in the same year, vaulting her into the top ten. The 2018 WTA Finals, as well as three of the five Premier 5-level tournaments: the Dubai Tennis Championships, the Italian Open, and the Canadian Open, are among her titles.

In doubles, she has won two titles, both at the Istanbul Cup in 2014 and 2015. Svitolina has reached the semifinals of two Grand Slam tournaments this year, the Wimbledon Championships and the US Open, but she has yet to win a Grand Slam singles title. Svitolina won the Olympic bronze medal in the women’s singles tournament at the 2020 Summer Olympics in 2021, making her the first Ukrainian Olympian to win a tennis medal.

Gael Monfils was born in Paris on September 1, 1986, and raised there. Rufin Monfils, his father, is a Guadeloupe native and former professional football player who also worked for France Telecom. Sylvette Cartesse, his mother, is from Martinique and worked as a nurse.
