When it comes to Italian tennis, one of the players flying the flag for the nation is without a doubt Matteo Berrettini.
The Italian has won five singles career titles so far, showcasing his prowess when handed an opportunity.
He has finished as the finalist in three singles career finals, which is certainly praiseworthy. And he is showing no signs of stopping.
In 2021, Berrettini became the first Italian man to reach a grand slam final since Adriano Panatta won the 1976 Roland Garros title.
He achieved this when he reached the final of Wimbledon, where he lost to Novak Djokovic. But he was already showing signs of growth.

Berrettini had won the biggest title of his career so far going into the tournament having won the Queen’s Club Championships. This marked his first triumph on the ATP 500 level.
The Italian had become the first player from the nation to win the prestigious title. He was also the first debutant to register a triumph at Queen’s Club.
He’s also made a decent run in the Australia Open 2022, reaching the semi-finals of the tournament. As such, there is plenty of interest in his personal life.
Ajla Tomljanovic is also a professional tennis player and the two have been together since 2019. Tomljanovic is Croation-born, but she represents Australia at the international level.
It is not exactly clear how the two met, but they have been known to be together for a little over two years now.
In a 2021 interview with Tennis Major, Matteo Berrettini joked that he started playing well ever since he started dating Tomljanovic.
“I mean since I started dating her, I really started to play well so I don’t know. I mean, yeah, I have to admit it but yeah it’s important to have a person that understands what I’m doing.”

He also said in the same interview that the couple choose not to talk about tennis when they are spending time together.
“Of course we talk about tennis but when we hang out, when we spend time together, we try to think about the other part.
“You know, because tennis is a big part of life, your practicing all day. So when we go for dinner and we don’t speak about tennis and I kind of like it.”
Tomljanovic has previously dated fellow Australian tennis player Nick Kyrgios. How their relationship eventually ended also remains unclear.
Interestingly, Berrettini and Tomljanovic are close friends with fellow tennis player Felix Auger-Aliassime, who is dating Tomljanovic’s cousin.
