Jannik Sinner is one of the fastest-rising stars in the world of tennis. The Italian, who was born in Innichen, Italy, and is currently only 20 years old, has already won five ATP titles.
This is despite the fact he turned pro in only 2018. But since then, his career has been going upwards fast. He first made history when he won an ATP Challenger title in Bergamo, Italy.
At the time, he was the first player born in 2001 to win a Challenger title. And, having turned pro in only 2018, he would record his maiden ATP title win in 2020. The tournament he won? The Sofia Open.
But 2021 would be the year where Sinner really took things to the next level. He started the year by winning the Great Ocean Road Open in Australia. It was his second ATP title in his young career.
However, arguably his biggest triumph of the year came in the Citi Open in Washington. That is an ATP 500 event, which is the middle-ranked category, the highest being ATP 1000 a.k.a. ATP Masters events.
He also played in the Nitto ATP Finals for the first time at the end of 2021. But he was unable to make the semi-finals due to losing one of his two group games.
He did well in the Grand Slams too, with his best Slam showings coming in the 2020 French Open and the 2021 US Open. At Roland Garros, he made it to the quarterfinals and in Flushing Meadows, to the fourth round.
Given his rise in prominence, there is now plenty of interest in his personal life too. Here we will take a look at Sinner’s relationship with his one-time girlfriend, Maria Braccini.
Maria Braccini is an Italian model and social media influencer. As of this writing, she has over 80,000 followers on photo-sharing social media app Instagram.
It is unsure when exactly the two became a couple. However, their relationship became the source of speculation in around September of 2020.
And Sinner preferred keeping things private, meaning most of his fans did not know until at least March 2021 about the couple being together.
But, despite being in a relationship, both were also committed to their careers.
In one interview, Jannik Sinner was very complimentary of his then-girlfriend. “Maria is very tender and affectionate, but also very independent and this is the quality that strikes me the most.
“She has tuned in to my needs, she knows that my priority is to sport, especially now because I’m just starting out and I still have to learn everything to become a champion.”
Yet the two were not meant to be and would eventually part ways.
Jannik Sinner and Maria Braccini announced their break-up in November 2021. In fact, the announcement came shortly before the Davis Cup final between Italy and Russia.
The news came as something of a surprise, given there was no noted disharmony between the two. However, the couple are no longer together.
There is no reason given by either Jannik Sinner and Maria Braccini as to why exactly they broke up. However, multiple news reports believe it is due to the increased workload on Sinner.
Besides playing in the Nitto ATP Finals, he had to suddenly step in to the Davis Cup team as well. The added responsibilities that come with being a top-ranked tennis star are said to be his main focus as things stand.
He is mainly focused on his game and that is where he expects his focus to lie for the foreseeable future. Thus, he reportedly felt a serious relationship was not for him right now.
