Zheng Qinwen is a Chinese tennis player who was born on October 8, 2002, in Shiyan, Hubei. On October 24, 2022, she climbed to her highest singles position of career, No. 25 in the world. She is now China’s No. 2 player. She received the WTA Newcomer of the Year award for 2022. She won the $25k ITF Circuit tournament in January 2021 in Hamburg, Germany, when she defeated Linda Fruhvirtová 6-2, 6-3. The match took place at the Hamburger Tennis-Verband. She defeated Aleksandra Kruni in two sets to win the $60k Macha Lake Open championship on June 20, 2021, in Staré Splavy. At the Palermo Ladies Open, where she made her WTA Tour debut, Zheng also earned her maiden victory by defeating second-seeded Liudmila Samsonova in the opening round.

First WTA final

At the Melbourne Summer Set 1, she defeated Mai Hontama, former No. 2 Vera Zvonareva, and Ana Konjuh, respectively, to advance to her first WTA semifinal. She was defeated by second-seeded Simona Halep in straight sets in the semifinals. Zheng qualified for her maiden Grand Slam event at the Australian Open a week after the Melbourne Summer Set, where she defeated Aliaksandra Sasnovich in the opening round.
