A veteran and legend of the sport, Simona Halep is still going strong despite entering perhaps the final stages of her career. The 30-year-old was ranked first in the world in 2017 and 2018 and currently finds herself in sixth place in the world as of August 19, 2022. Halep is a decorated athlete with 24 singles titles to her name and a career win percentage of over 70%. She has won two Grand Slam titles in her career, the 2018 French Open and the 2019 Wimbledon Championships.

Halep has also reached the final of the Australian Open and is a semi-finalist of the US Open. She is currently coached by Patrick Mouratoglou and has earned over USD 40 million in prize money as of August 2022 as per Wikipedia. Halep was also ranked first as a junior and when she was just starting out at the ITF junior circuit, she was regarded as someone who would go a long way as a professional.

Although she had taken the mantle of world no. 1 in 2017, Halep was yet to win a Grand Slam. That dream became a reality in 2018 when she beat Sloane Stephens from a set down in the final of Roland Garros. Leading up to the tournament, she had not won any major competitions on clay, her best result being a runners-up place at the Italian Open.

The Romanian would add another Grand Slam trophy to her cabinet a year later as she defeated the legendary Serena Williams in the final of the Wimbledon Championships. Halep was an underdog going into the match but her dominating victory put any doubts about her skills to rest and she became the first ever Romanian to win a singles title at The Championships.
