Anhelina Serhiyivna Kalinina, born 7 February 1997, is a Ukrainian professional tennis playe. On the ITF Circuit, Kalinina has won 15 singles championships, three doubles titles, one singles title on the WTA Challenger Tour, and one singles title overall. She attained a career-high singles ranking of No. 34 on June 27, 2022. She reached her highest WTA doubles ranking of 196 on July 15, 2019, at that time. She ranked first among Ukrainian tennis players in June 2022. The Australian Open’s girls’ doubles competition was won by Kalinina and Elizaveta Kulichkova in 2014 when they defeated Katie Boulter and Ivana Jorovi in the championship match. She lost to Marie Bouzková in straight sets in the Junior US Open final in that same year.

Grand Slam debut

After winning three matches in the qualifying round at the 2018 US Open (tennis), Kalinina made her main-draw debut in a Grand Slam singles competition. She won in straight sets over Tereza Martincová in round one, Elena-Gabriela Ruse in round two, and Jaimee Fourlis in round three of qualifying. She then went on to win a Grand Slam match by defeating Kathinka von Deichmann in three sets, but fell to Sloane Stephens in the next round.

2021-22 Journey

She beat the 26th seed and three-time Grand Slam champion Angelique Kerber at the French Open to advance to the second round. Despite losing in the Wimbledon qualifying final round, Kalinina won the $60k Montpellier and $100k Contrexéville trophies during the following two weeks, bringing her total number of 2021 ITF titles to four. She rose 30 ranking positions from world No. 125 to No. 95 with a 2021 season record of 32-7. On January 17, 2022, she entered the top 50 at position 49 in the world. Kalinina set a new career high ranking of No. 42 after making it to the round of 16 at the Miami Open before retiring hurt against 16th seed Jessica Pegula. Later in June, she rose to No. 34. She overtook Elina Svitolina to become the top tennis player in Ukraine as a result. She upset Maria Sakkari, the third seed and world No. 5 at the Eastbourne International, in the second round.
