What style of tennis does she play?

The ball-hitting prowess of Océane Dodin is well-known and a characteristic of her game. Her preferred strategy is attacking aggressively from the baseline and finishing the point with a minimum number of rallies (three at most); this risky strategy results in a high proportion of successful strokes but also unforced errors throughout a match. She claims that hardcourt is better for her game than clay, where she feels more at ease. Her strategy also accommodates her limited stamina, as repeated exchanges cause her to accumulate side points. Since her early years in Villeneuve-d’Ascq, her playing style has been developed with a focus on gaze and execution speed. She stated in a tennis.com interview that she prefers her backhand over her forehand because it gives her more strength. She added that she has to work on her serve and forehand.

First WTA title

In 2016, she tried competing in hardcourt events, but it didn’t work out. She didn’t make it into the Canadian Open after losing in the opening round of the Washington Open. After leaving the ITF Circuit, she went back there and made it to two $25K finals, losing the first one but winning the second. She failed to advance past the US Open qualifying round between these two competitions. She then took part in the carpet competition Tournoi de Québec, where she made a breakthrough. She won in straight sets over qualifier Lauren Davis in the championship match. Her ranking in the top 100 rose because of this outcome. She beat two top 100 women, Kristna Plková and Sorana Cîrstea, to advance as a qualifier to the quarterfinals of the Linz Open a month later. Madison Keys ultimately defeated her. Two weeks later, she defeated Davis in the championship match to win the $100,000 Poitiers competition.
