After a long and hard-fought match, the United States of America registered its first victory of the 2022 Davis Cup Finals after edging past Great Britain. It was then Taylor Fritz’s turn to seal the deal for the US but with Cameron Norrie on the other end, things did not go as planned. Norrie showed his class and composure to eke out a 2-6, 7-6 (7-2), 7-5 victory to tie the score at 1-1. It was down to the doubles competitors to win the match for their respective teams as Andy Murray and Joe Salisbury faced Rajeev Ram and Jack Sock. It was the much more seasoned team of Sock and Ram that won the match and confirmed the US’ first victory.
Kazakhstan’s singles players were not up to the mark in their first group stage match as the team fell to a 2-1 defeat to The Netherlands. The doubles team of Alexander Bublik and Aleksandr Nedovyesov beat Matwe Middelkoop and Wesley Koolhof to save one game for the Asian nation. However, Mikhail Kukushkin was beaten by Tallon Griekspoor and Bublik lost to Botic van de Zandschulp.
USA and Kazakhstan are set to face each other in a Group D match on Thursday, September 15 in the 2022 Davis Cup. The group stage of the competition is scheduled to begin on September 13 and conclude on September 18 this year.
