Earlier this month, Cameron Norrie had a couple of forgettable weeks in team competitions. He represented Great Britain in the Davis Cup, losing two of his three singles matches. Later, Team Europe lost the Laver Cup for the first time, and he lost his lone singles match. The British No. 1 was in excellent form during tour-level competitions, so it will be interesting to see if his performance on the main tour is impacted by those two challenging weeks in team events. His past five events saw him win at least two matches, including two semifinal appearances at Wimbledon and the Cincinnati Masters and a second-place finish in Los Cabos.
In this week’s opening round of the ATP Seoul, Kaichi Uchida defeated Seong Chan Hong in a matchup of wildcard entrants. The Japanese player, who typically struggles to maintain leads and finish off matches, faced three straight break points while attempting to serve out the opening set, but fortunately for him, his opponent was unable to capitalise, defeating him 6-4 6-2. The 28-year-journey old’s to the second round in Seoul is his greatest performance at this level; he made his tour-level main-draw debut in Los Cabos (R1) last month. Over the years, he has won many matches and trophies on lower-level circuits, but he still doesn’t seem prepared to advance to the main tour.
Kaichi Uchida and Cameron Norrie are scheduled to face each other in the round of 16 of the 2022 ATP Korea Open on Thursday, September 29. The tournament is scheduled to begin on September 24 and end on October 2.
