On Friday, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Andrey Rublev will face off in the final round-robin match of the 2022 ATP Finals. Tsitsipas began his season with a straight-sets loss to Novak Djokovic. He needed a win against Daniil Medvedev in his next group match to keep his semifinal hopes alive. The Greek got off to a fast start, jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the first set. He didn’t let his opponent catch up to him and won the first round. With the duo dominating on serve in the second set, a tie-break was unavoidable.

Medvedev took an early 4-1 lead, but Tsitsipas battled back to put himself on the verge of victory. However, the 24-year-old squandered his three match points as his opponent snatched the set from him to force a decider. Tsitsipas was on the back foot in the third set, trailing by a break. With Medvedev serving for the match at 5-4, the Greek broke his serve to level the score, and the match quickly went to another tie-break. Tsitsipas then completely dominated Medvedev to win the match 6-3, 6-7 (11), 7-6.

Rublev won a close three-set match against Medvedev to start his ATP Finals campaign on a high note. In his second group match, he faced Novak Djokovic. For the majority of the first set, he was able to keep up with the Serb. However, despite staying in the set at 5-4, the Russian was broken to lose the opener. In the second set, Djokovic completely outplayed Rublev. The 25-year-old only managed to win one game, as the Serb defeated him 6-4, 6-1.
