The fifth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas advanced to the fifth Masters 1000 quarter final of the season on Thursday, ending qualifier Corentin Moutet’s brave run in the tournament. Tsitsipas looked at ease in the first set, not allowing Moutet a break point and converting one of three he created in the eighth game. The Greek struggled in the second set, with the home favorite stretching him to the limit. He also made it to the finals in Rotterdam, Rome, Cincinnati, Astana, and Stockholm. The last two came in consecutive tournaments last month. After a strong showing in Paris, he will be eager to continue his quest for a 25th career final.

Tommy Paul advanced in the tournament with a straight sets win over 14th seed Pablo Carreno Busta on Thursday, following his biggest win of his career over world no. 2 Rafael Nadal on Wednesday. Paul has advanced to his second Masters 1000 quarterfinal after defeating the Spaniard 6-4, 6-4. His first came not long ago, either, with Paul falling in the final eight in Cincinnati. This is the world number 31’s tenth quarterfinal appearance this year, but he has only reached the final four once, in Delray Beach. Paul has played well in the first three matches, defeating three Spaniards in a row and keeping his chances alive.
