Stefanos Tsitsipas and Luca Nardi will take on each other in the round of 16 of the 2022 ATP Astana Open on Wednesday, October 5.
In Astana, Stefanos Tsitsipas breezed through a challenging test against former world number one Mikhail Kukushkin. He didn’t encounter a breakpoint on his serve, and he won the game 6-3 6-4 by converting two of the eight opportunities he gave himself on the opponent’s serve. The Greek No. 1 wasn’t able to perform at his peak level this year for a variety of reasons, but he still managed to rack up many victories, provide a few noteworthy performances, and maintain his position in the top 10 of the ATP rankings. On the main tour in 2022, only the world’s No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz has won more games than he has, and he successfully defended his first Masters title at Monte Carlo.
After a rocky beginning to the match, Luca Nardi overcame fellow qualifier Alexander Shevchenko in straight sets to earn his first main-draw victory at this level. Earlier in the season, he defeated David Goffin, the former world #7, in a three-set match in the last qualifying round after dominating Hamad Medjedovic in QR1. The gifted Italian kid, who had never before won a Challenger championship until 2022, has now claimed three of them in the past ten months, two of which occurred on Forli and Lugano’s indoor hard courts.
Stefanos Tsitsipas and Luca Nardi are scheduled to face each other in the round of 16 of the 2022 ATP Astana Open on Wednesday, October 5. The tournament is scheduled to begin on October 3 and end on October 9.
