Stefanos Tsitsipas and Daniil Medvedev will face one another in the group stage of the 2022 ATP Finals on Wednesday, November 16.
On Wednesday, world No. 3 Stefanos Tsitsipas will face 2021 US Open champion Daniil Medvedev in the group stage of the 2022 ATP Finals. Tsitsipas faced Novak Djokovic in his first round-robin match and lost serve to fall behind 1-0 in the first set. He then failed to make any inroads on his opponent’s serve and lost the set. The Greek stepped up his game in the second set, but it was still difficult to wear down the Serb. The set went to a tie-break because both players held serve until the end. Djokovic led 5-1 in the match, and the Greek was unable to overcome the deficit, losing 6-4, 7-6. (4).
In his first group match, Medvedev faced Andrey Rublev. He trailed 3-1 after an early break, but he levelled the score by breaking his opponent’s serve as he attempted to close out the set. The former world number one then saved a couple of set points to force a tie-break. While Rublev raced out to a 6-2 lead in the tie-break, Medvedev hung in there and won the first set. The former US Open champion’s momentum was lost in the second set when he dropped serve twice. In the third set, the pair were evenly matched because they both defended their serves well. Rublev took a 6-3 lead in the tie-break as the set entered the tie-break. Medvedev survived the first four match points but was defeated on the fifth, falling 6-7 (7), 6-3, 7-6. (7).
