Christopher O'Connell and Chun Hsin Tseng will face each other in the round of 32 of the 2022 ATP Korea Open on Tuesday, September 27.
A week ago, Christopher O’Connell had an unforgettable week in San Diego. In three straight victories, he defeated Jason Kubler, Jeffrey John Wolf, and Jenson Brooksby to get to his first semifinal on the main circuit. Due to injuries and some difficult losses in recent months, this Australian player’s performance was unexpected and greatly needed. He had two retirements in the previous three months at the Malaga Challenger and Porto Challenger, and he had physical difficulties during his US Open first-round match. In addition to that impressive run in San Diego, the 28-year-old has defeated Diego Schwartzman and defeated players like Andy Murray and Sebastian Baez in sets during the past nine months, but has a poor 3-8 record in matches in the first round of tour-level competitions (in 2022).
On the major tour in Asia, Chun Hsin Tseng is given his first significant opportunity. It will be intriguing to watch how he performs over the next two weeks. When East Asia last hosted ATP competitions in 2019, he lacked experience and was positioned outside of the top 300. The promising 21-year-old finally made his debut in the main draw of tour-level events in Los Cabos two months ago after four unsuccessful tries between 2018 and 2022, and he added one more victory to his collection by overcoming a struggling Marton Fucsovics in Winston Salem last month.
Yosuke Watanuki and Chun Hsin Tseng are scheduled to face each other in the round of 32 of the 2022 ATP Korea Open on Tuesday, September 27. The tournament is scheduled to begin on September 24 and end on October 2.
