On Monday, Italian Martina Trevisan will compete in the opening round of the 2022 US Open against seasoned Russian Evgeniya Rodina.
The current World No. 27 Martina Trevisan, is well-known among her followers for being a clay-court expert with a penchant for the surface. Along with her first singles WTA victory and Challenger final, 10 of her 11 ITF finals have taken place on this surface. Trevisan also advanced quickly to the French Open semifinals earlier in the season. Martina’s Grand Slam run boosted her into the top 30, but the 28-year-old Italian has obviously found it difficult to maintain her momentum ever since. Following the outcome in Paris, Bad Homburg and Wimbledon first-round losses occurred. She lost in the first matches in Toronto and Cincinnati later in the North American swing. Trevisan defeated Mayar Sheriff in the round of 32 last week in Cleveland, but she later withdrew from the competition.
A 33-year-old Russian Evgeniya Rodina, rejoins the tour after a break of more than three years. Her most recent competition was in June 2019 in Eastbourne, where she was defeated by Ons Jabeur in the first round. Since then, Rodina has been absent from the action and is essentially beginning over. In her lengthy career, the former World No. 67 has never advanced past the second round at Flushing Meadows. Rodina hasn’t exactly succeeded in winning a singles championship either; her finest performances to date have been the doubles runner-up finish in Gstaad in 2016 and the final appearances in a few Challenger tournaments in Taipei and Limoges.
Martina Trevisan and Evgeniya Rodina are scheduled to face one another in the first round match of the US Open 2022 on Monday, August 29. The 2022 US Open is all set to begin from August 29 till September 11.
The 2022 US Open will see six rounds of action excluding the qualifiers. These include the round of 64, round of 32, round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final for both men’s and women’s. The tournament is scheduled to commence on August 29 and conclude on September 11 this year.
