Last year, Sorribes-Torma reached the quarter-finals of this tournament, matching her best performance in a WTA 1000 event just a few weeks after knocking out then-world number one Ashleigh Barty in the Tokyo Olympics. She has not played on a hard court since losing in the first round in Miami, preferring to play on clay for as long as possible. This resulted in her reaching another major quarter-final in Madrid, as well as the last eight in Lausanne. She went one better in her most recent tournament in Palermo, reaching her first semi-final of 2022 before losing to eventual winner Irina Begu of Romania. 

After winning the Wimbledon girls’ singles title as a junior, Liu reached her first senior final in May in Morocco, where she was defeated on clay by Italian Martina Trevisan. That same month, she won a Challenger event on the same surface in France and a doubles title at the same level in Italy. Results have been harder to come by since that purple patch, though she did make the first round of Wimbledon for the second year in a row. She will be making her debut in this event after advancing through two rounds of qualifying, defeating local Victoria Mboko and then Australian Ellen Perez.

2022 Canadian Open Schedule

The 2022 edition of the Canadian Open is set to begin from August 8 and go on until August 15. The men’s final is scheduled to be on August 15 and the women’s one is set to be held on August 14. There will be six rounds of play in the main draw excluding the qualifiers.
