Australian qualifier Olivia Tjandramulia will take on Carol Zhao in the first round of the 2022 WTA Chennai Open. Tjandramulia certainly earned her spot in the main draw after putting in a belter of a shift in the qualifying matches. The Aussie got the better of the top seeded qualifier, Yuki Naito, in her final qualifying match, winning by a score of 6-3, 7-6. Earlier, Tjandramulia had participated in the Granby National Bank Championships but could not deliver. She was beaten in the second round of the qualifying matches 4-6, 6-7 by Romania’s Nadiia Kichenok.

Carol Zhao has had a tough time of late as she has been unable to make it past the first round of quite a few competitions. Her most recent participation came at the 2022 US Open where she was beaten in her very first qualifying match by Chinese tennis player Zhu Lin 2-6, 4-6.

WTA Chennai Open 2022 Schedule

The 2022 WTA Chennai Open is scheduled to commence on September 12 and go on until September 18 this year. The tournament will have five rounds of play excluding the qualifiers. These are the round of 32, round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals.
