Former world no. 3 Dominic Thiem seems to be getting his old form back as he displayed a dominanr performance on Friday to get past Juan Pablo Varillas and make it through to the semi-final of the 2022 Swiss Open. The Austrian will face second seed Matteo Berrettini in what promises to be a match that will keep fans on edge. Against Varillas in the quarter-final, Thiem scored four aces and converted five out of 12 break points. He also recorded an impressive 78% win percentage on the first serve. The Austrian has beaten the likes of Varillas, Hugo Gaston and Federico Delbonis but Berrettini is undoubtedly his biggest challenge so far.

The second-seeded Italian is enjoying a fine run of form at the moment, beating fifth seed Pedro Martinez in a three-setter in Friday’s quarter-final. Berrettini won by a score of 3-6, 7-6 (7-5), 6-1 to advance to the semis. Throughout the course of the Swiss Open, Berrettini has beaten the likes of Martinez and Richard Gasquet and the Italian is the favourite against Thiem.

Dominic Thiem and Matteo Berrettini will take on each other on Saturday, July 23 in the semi-final of the 2022 Swiss Open. The competition is scheduled to commence on July 17 and conclude on July 23 this year.
