The final of the 2022 Stuttgart Open is right around the corner and it is the former world no. 1 Andy Murray who finds himself against second seed Matteo Berrettini in the main event on Sunday. Murray beat a spirited Nick Kyrgios in the semis. The Scot has been on a fine run of form so far in this year’s grass season and will look to carry that straight through to Wimbledon. Elsewhere, Berrettini had his work cut out for him against home favourite Oscar Otte but found a way to make it through to the final. The two will face each other on Sunday in what promises to be a thrilling encounter. The match is scheduled to start from 6:30 pm IST.

Murray beats Kyrgios in semis

Andy Murray, the former World No. 1, reached his first tour-level final on grass since 2016, defeating Australian Nick Kyrgios 7-6(5), 6-2 at the BOSS OPEN in Stuttgart on Saturday. The Scot saved both break points he faced in the first set and increased his energy on return in the tie-break to take the lead. In the second set, he raced to the finish and advanced after one hour and 33 minutes by hitting his waterproof groundstrokes forcefully and consistently. When he meets Italian Matteo Berrettini in the final on Sunday, the 35-year-old will be aiming for his seventh career title on grass. It will be the pair’s third meeting.

Berrettini fights past Otte

Matteo Berrettini’s recovery reached new heights on Saturday at the BOSS OPEN, as the Italian beat Germany’s Oscar Otte 7-6(7), 7-6(5) to reach his first tour-level final of the season. Berrettini was forced to withdraw from the clay season after suffering a right hand injury in March. On his return to Stuttgart this week, the second seed has immediately found his form, serving well and dictating on his forehand to reach his fourth tour-level final on grass. In a tense match, the World No. 10 hit 18 aces, won 84 percent (41/49) of his first-serve points, and saved one set point at 6/7 in the first-set tie-break before advancing after one hour and 48 minutes.
