Jan Lennard Struff and Dusan Lajovic will face each other in the round of 32 of the 2022 ATP Sofia Open on Wednesday, September 28.
In this unimpressive 2022 season, Jan Lennard Struff has only won 16 games overall, and five of those victories have come in the previous ten days at the Davis Cup and qualifying rounds in Sofia, where he overcame players like Benjamin Bonzi and former champion Mirza Basic. The German has already put together a five-match victory streak twice this year. He earlier defeated Karen Khachanov, 6-3, 3-6, and 6-7, to lose the championship he had won at the Braunschweig Challenger in July without dropping a set.
Even though Dusan Lajovic is struggling on the tour this year, he has fared somewhat better than his German rival and is only able to hang on to the top 100 spots in the ATP rankings. His season w/l record has improved to 24/26 after he failed to win a main-draw match at the US Open swing. Last week, he advanced to the semifinal of the Genoa Challenger. The ATP Sofia newcomer has yet to play a match on an indoor hard court this year, despite losing six of his nine matches there in 2021. At the Paris Masters 2021, he lost in straight sets to a German opponent named Alexander Zverev in his final indoor match.
Dusan Lajovic and Jan Lennard Struff are scheduled to face each other in the round of 32 of the 2022 ATP Sofia Open on Wednesday, September 28. The tournament is scheduled to begin on September 26 and end on October 2.
