Daniil Medvedev and Stefanos Tsitsipas both breezed into the quarter-finals of the 2021 French Open on Sunday. The two will face each other next in what promises to be a titanic clash between two of the best of world tennis today. Both of them won in straight sets, and both seem to be in a similar vein of rich form going into the quarter-finals. Tsitsipas beat Pablo Carreno Busta 6-3, 6-3, 7-5 while Medvedev beat Cristian Garin 6-2, 6-1, 7-5. Medvedev is the second-ranked seed in the world while Tsitsipas holds the number five spot. Regardless of the outcome, this particular match will be one to remember.

CLINICAL TSITSIPAS

A clinical Tsitsipas made short work of Busta. He was just as dominant as his quarter-final opponent. The Greek scored six aces and restricted the Spaniard to scoring only one. He also did not concede a single double fault, which is an exceptional statistic.

Tsitsipas had a 75% win percentage on the first serve compared to Busta’s 62% and also held the advantage on the second serve with 59% compared to his opponent’s 45%. The Greek scored five out of 12 available break points, while Busta could only manage one out of six. He also won 14 service games, five more than Buasta’s nine.

MAGNIFICENT MEDVEDEV

In the other game on Sunday, Medvedev absolutely dominated his match against Garin. He scored 14 aces and denied the Chilean from scoring even a single one. He did concede more double faults (six) than his opponent (three), but that turned out to be irrelevant. Medvedev had an 87% win percentage on the first serve, much higher than Garin’s 56%. The world number 2 also had a higher second serve win percentage at 63% compared to Garin’s 47%.

Medvedev scored six out of his 11 available break points while Garin could only convert one out of a total two. He also won almost double the number of service games at 13 than his opponent with seven. All and all, it was an utterly dominating performance by the world number 2.
