Alcaraz was beaten by Auger-Aliassime in what was a belter of a performance by the Canadian in Spain's previous Davis Cup match.
Carlos Alcaraz’s most ardent supporters had rushed to watch the world’s new top-ranked player on his return to Spain but they saw Felix Auger-Aliassime defeat their new idol before staying on the hard court to capture a second doubles victory and help Canada overcome Spain 2-1 in the Davis Cup group round on Friday. Alcaraz fell 6-7 (3), 6-4, 6-2 against Auger-Aliassime, who overcame the partisan crowd and swung the match in his favour after the 19-year-old Spaniard dug deep to win the first-set tiebreaker.
Serbia’s Miomir Kecmanovic won his first Davis Cup at the ideal time to help his side defeat Korea Republic in Group B of the Davis Cup. The 23-year-old Serbian defeated Kwon Soonwoo 6-3, 6-4 in one hour and 19 minutes, demonstrating why he is a former junior world No. 1. Dusan Lajovic’s 6-4, 6-0 victory over Hong Seong Chan in the first set of the tie gave Serbia a 1-0 lead. Nam Ji Sung and Song Min-Kyu won the doubles match 6-4, 6-2 over Nikola Cacic and Filip Krajinovic. It was a significant victory that offers them a chance to go to the Final 8.
Spain and South Korea are set to face each other in a Group A match on Sunday, September 18 in the 2022 Davis Cup. The group stage of the competition is scheduled to begin on September 13 and conclude on September 18 this year.
