When asked about her Wimbledon play, Simona Halep expressed her satisfaction and praised Elena Rybakina for her performance in their semifinal match. Halep was unexpectedly defeated by Rybakina on Thursday in the Wimbledon semifinal, as Rybakina won by 6-3, 6-3 to go to her first Grand Slam final. Halep, who lost in the second round of the French open early, advanced to the Wimbledon semifinals without dropping a set. Halep thought she performed admirably at the All England Club despite not succeeding in winning the Championship or making it to Wimbledon final.

“I’m thankful for the way I have improved since Roland Garros. I’ve become stronger and I was able to display a better tennis. I trust the process. Congrats Elena Rybakina, you were too strong for me today. Thanks to everyone who cheered and supported, you pushed me all the way to give my best. And a big thank you to my amazing team Patrick Mouratoglou, Theo Cercel, Arnaud Restifo, Candice Gohier, Nina Wennerstrom. I’m so grateful to have you by my side. I know that I am on the right path. See you next year Wimbledon,” On Facebook, Halep posted.

Rybakina Masterclass

Rybakina started off well and quickly established a 3-0 lead. In three more of Halep’s service games in the first set , Rybakina earned break points but couldn’t capitalize. However, Rybakina only needed one serve break to take the opening set. She led 2-0 after taking the opening set thanks to an early Halep break. As she tied the set at two games each on the fourth game, Halep secured her first break of the match. Halep’s service issues persisted, which was unfortunate because Rybakina broke her twice more in the fifth and ninth games to win the match in straight sets.

Coach views on loss

Simona Halep’s loss in the Wimbledon semifinals was upsetting, but her coach Patrick Mouratoglou gave Elena Rybakina credit for playing a “near-perfect performance.” The 30-year-old Halep started the match against Rybakina as the favourite, but the 23-year-old put up a strong showing to defeat the Romanian 6-3 6-3 and go to the Wimbledon final.

“Of course, it’s always difficult to lose while being two matches away from a Grand Slam crown, but she simply didn’t have her chance against a very strong opponent who, overall, played an almost-perfect match.

But our spirit is still great. This loss doesn’t change anything in terms of the process. Simona was very tired physically and emotionally after four weeks in a row of competitive tennis. That was long. It was the end of this road and she struggled to find the resources needed to counterpunch such an opponent,” Mouratoglou said.
