At his home ATP 1000 competition, Shapovalov will certainly be looking to go deep and his first test will be against Alex de Minaur.
Denis Shapovalov’s form in recent history has not been memorable by any stretch of the imagination. The veteran had a lackluster display at the 2022 Wimbledon Championships, only going as far as the second round before being eliminated by an unseeded Brandon Nakashima. Shapovalov then took part in the 2022 Citi Open, hoping to make amends. However, things did not go according to plan there either as he was ousted in only the first round, once again by an unseeded player. Now, at his home ATP 1000 competition, the Canadian will certainly be looking to go deep and his first test will be against Alex de Minaur.
De Minaur has been in good form of late, despite a disappointing first round exit at the Citi Open. The Australian was the winner of the 2022 Atlanta Open earlier this month, beating a spirited Jenson Brooksby in the final. He had a fine run in the Wimbledon Championships, going as far as the round of 16. The Aussie will be hoping to carry his form into the Canadian Open and upset the home favourite Shapovalov in his first match.
Denis Shapovalov and Alex de Minaur are scheduled to face one another in the round of 64 of the 2022 Canadian Open on Tuesday, August 9. The tournament is scheduled to run from August 8 till August 15.
The 2022 edition of the Canadian Open is set to begin from August 8 and go on until August 15. The men’s final is scheduled to be on August 15 and the women’s one is set to be held on August 14. There will be six rounds of play in the main draw excluding the qualifiers.
