Oksana Selekhmeteva will take on Despina Papamichail in the first round of the 2022 WTA Chennai Open. Selekhmeteva reached the quarter-finals of the tournament where she was defeated by eighth seed Marie Bouzkova. Recently, the Russian took part in the US Open but was ousted in her very first qualifying match by Anna Blinkova.

Greek tennis player Despina Papamichail has had a tough time in recent history was ousted in the very first round of each of the last four competitions she had taken part in, including an opening qualifying round defeat at the US Open. Her best result in the past few months came in June when she reached the semis of the ITF Czech Republic 03A competition.

The 2022 WTA Chennai Open is scheduled to commence on September 12 and go on until September 18 this year. The tournament will have five rounds of play excluding the qualifiers. These are the round of 32, round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals.
