Sakkari is one of the favorites for the grass court Grand Slam and fans will be expectant of seeing her in the business end of the competition.
After two successful outings at the 2022 Wimbledon, Greek tennis player Maria Sakkari is set to compete in the third round against Germany’s Tatjana Maria. Sakkari, who is seeded fifth in the tournament, beat Zoe Hives and Viktoriya Tomova so far. Against Tomova, the fifth seed won 6-4, 6-3, hitting five aces and winning four out of 13 break points. Sakkari is one of the favorites for the grass court Grand Slam and fans will be expectant of seeing her in the business end of the competition.
Tatjana Maria has had a fine start to her Wimbledon season so far, the unseeded German making it through to the third round after a couple of impressive victories over Astra Sharma and Sorana Cirstea in the first and second rounds respectively. Maria beat Cirstea 6-3, 1-6, 7-5 in a match where the German hit four aces and converted six out of eight break points.
Sakkari and Maria are scheduled to face each other on Friday, July 1 in the third round of the 2022 Championships. The timing of the match has not been decided yet. The Championships is scheduled to begin on June 27 and go on until July 10. There were a number of exciting matches on July 1 as the likes of Jabeur, Sakkari, Ostapenko and others will be in action.
