Aryna Sabalenka and Karolina Pliskova are scheduled to face one another in the quarter-final of the US Open 2022 on Wednesday, September 7.
Aryna Sabalenka’s recent form hasn’t been stellar, but she’d already demonstrated a willingness to fight her way out of trouble with a scrappy victory over Kaia Kanepi in the second round. Soon after, Sabalenka cruised past Clara Burel, but when she faced Australian Open runner-up Danielle Collins, she knew she was in for a challenge. Even more so after Sabalenka dropped a set in 44 minutes. Following the exchange of breaks to love, there were nine break-points, eight of which were squandered. Sabalenka broke her opponent and leveled things up before breaking Collins three times in the final set to clinch a spot in the last eight.
Karolina Pliskova and her fourth-round opponent Victoria Azarenka didn’t have much in common, and the match lived up to those expectations. The two were at each other until the start of the third set, with nothing to choose between them and a long decider on the horizon. Pliskova, on the other hand, received her first break-point opportunity in the first game of the third set, and once she had it, she lost just five points in her next three service games to secure her long-awaited quarterfinal berth – her first at a major this year. Pliskova is gradually regaining her old form, having already defeated Marie Bouzkova and Belinda Bencic.
Aryna Sabalenka and Karolina Pliskova are scheduled to face one another in the quarter-final of the US Open 2022 on Wednesday, September 7. The 2022 US Open is all set to begin from August 29 till September 11.
