Felix Auger Aliassime and Casper Ruud will take on one another in the round robin stage of the 2022 ATP Nitto Finals on November 13.
A few weeks ago, the competition for the final berth in the Race to Turin was heating up, but Felix Auger Aliassime rapidly upped the bar and eliminated all challengers by compiling an incredible winning streak in European indoor competition. Ultimately, he easily earned a spot in the ATP Finals and even beat Andrey Rublev in the Race to claim the sixth position. Over the past few weeks, the Canadian No. 1 won 16 consecutive matches on indoor hard courts, and this remarkable run was only broken by eventual champion Holger Rune in the quarterfinal of the Paris Masters. During this run, he won matches against players like Carlos Alcaraz and Holger Nowack and earned consecutive ATP titles in Florence, Antwerp, and Basel.
Casper Ruud may still have a lot to show at the highest level because he is frequently criticised for failing to win a title beyond the ATP 250 level and frequently loses to well-known players. He does, however, make his second straight appearance in the season-ending ATP Finals because he has been among the main tour’s steady performers from the start of the 2021 campaign. The Norwegian had a great first season in Turin last year, qualifying from a group that included the world’s top-ranked player, Novak Djokovic, the victor of the 2021 Indian Wells Masters, Cameron Norrie, and one of the finest players on indoor hard courts, Andrey Rublev. He triumphed in two of the three round-robin games.
